Iridescent Crackle - Shop

This is a combination crackle, where you use both of the crackle mediums to create a crazed effect using Iridescent paints from the Jo Sonja’s Paint range.  It can also be used to work with the Metallic paints.

For this example we are using the Carbon Black as the base colour and we have selected two Iridescent colours that tone together.

Sponge

Method

Apply 2 coats of Carbon Black.  Allow to dry.

Apply a generous coat of Decor Crackle.  Allow to dry*. 

Lay out Iridescent Green and Turquoise on the palette, mix a little water ** into each of the colours. Mix well. 

With the sponge start with one colour and sponge over the surface starting at the edge, continue and integrate the next colour in. Allow it to blend, you don’t want to see stop start marks. Continue until you have covered the entire surface.

Allow to dry. With the brush, apply a generous coat of Crackle medium. Allow it time to craze.

*The drying process, in each case, can be speeded up by the use of a gently applied hairdryer.

**You will find that this is the only occasion in which we will suggest you thin the paint with water.  Usually we would advocate using Flow medium to maintain the quality of the paints, but the Iridescent does respond better to water – if it is a filtered water it is even better!
